Advocacy Resources
NAGC "Advocate for Gifted Children"
This resource, created by the National Association for Gifted Children, outlines a step-by-step advocacy guide for educators and staff to partake in. Using this resource, you can learn about the best methods in advocacy and change for gifted programming. I recommend this resource because it is created by a nationally accredited organization that sponsors research on giftedness. If you're looking to better your school's or district's gifted programming, take a look!
"Tips for Parents: How to Advocate for your Gifted Student at School"
This resource was created by Davidson Academy, which is a school for the profoundly gifted. This article was created for parents of gifted students providing tips for parental advocacy on the child's behalf. Similar to the resource above, there are plenty of helpful strategies for advocacy but this is a parent's version. Sometimes, it can be hard for parents to feel comfortable or find the right words to say when speaking up for their children; that's why I recommend this resource!
"A Guide to Self-Advocacy for Gifted Students"
This resource was also created by the Davidson Academy. This resource details reasons why it's important for gifted students to advocate for themselves and how to do so effectively. From utilizing problem-solving skills to receiving resources, this article reflects the importance of gifted students speaking up for themselves and their peers. Besides, who knows what they need more than the learner themself? I recommend this source because it can be hard for gifted students to find the confidence to speak up, however, this source relays how to self-advocate effectively and respectfully.
